Water Supply in Ponta Salto
A project to bring water to the homes of 60 families in the hamlet of Ponta Salto, Cape Verde, reducing the daily burden of water collection.

The project aimed to improve access to water for families in the hamlet of Ponta Salto, in the Municipality of Santa Cruz, Cape Verde.
The intervention made it possible to reduce the distance and effort required for daily water collection, lightening the burden particularly on women, children and girls.
Through collaboration between MSP, the Municipality of Candiolo, the Piedmont Region, the Municipality of Santa Cruz and the local community, the project strengthened a cooperation and twinning process active for nearly twenty years.

For nearly twenty years Movimento Sviluppo e Pace has been accompanying the Municipality of Candiolo in twinning and cooperation activities with the Municipality of Santa Cruz, in the Republic of Cape Verde.
In October 2023 a delegation from Candiolo, accompanied by MSP Vice President Pierre Monkam, traveled to Cape Verde to return the visit of the Mayor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Silva, and to participate in the inauguration of the water supply project in the hamlet of Ponta Salto.
About 60 families live in the hamlet who, before the intervention, were forced to travel several kilometers to transport water using mules, hand-carried containers or containers balanced on their heads.
The project made it possible to bring water directly into homes, concretely improving the quality of life of the local community. The benefit particularly affects women, children and girls, who will be able to devote more time to family, school, social and economic activities.
The intervention was carried out thanks to the contribution of the Piedmont Region, the Municipality of Candiolo, Movimento Sviluppo e Pace ETS and the participation of local beneficiaries.
